Where were you when...

A lot of times I've heard, "I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard that JFK was shot". However some of us are not old enough to have gone through that. However we've all been around long enough to have gone through Sept 11, 2001. I'm just curious if that had the same impact? Personally, I know exactly where I was when I heard - I can see it clearly in my eyes.

I was on my way to work, driving down C470 highway heading towards I-25 right around Quebec / University blvd when the radio station I was listening to reported it. At the time, they weren't quite sure the significance of it.

Yes. I was sitting at my desk in my old Colorado HS (where Vic now works) when another counselor (he was big and lazy and lasted only a year there) poked his head in my door and said "A plane just flew into the World Trade Center!" Over the course of the morning, we watched the thing unfold on the TV in the administrative conference room. You know, we pretended to work but kept walking into the room checking on the updates, prompting one of the teachers to comment, "In a crisis, the administrators____ (can't remember), the teachers_____, and the counselors watch TV."

Indeed...we were in boulder, and i crawled out of bed with a thump to answer the phone. it was jay's mother - 'a plane flew into the world trade center building...i think' she said with her subtle west virginian drawl, sounding concerned. 'huh?' i think i replied. She repeated the statement and i said, 'hmmmm...' and handed the phone to her son. We didn't have a tv at the time (by choice, not by poverty), so we sat motionless near the radio for the next hour. to this day, believe it or not, i still haven't seen much of the footage from that day...

In bed w/ Jay? you weren't even married yet.

I think I need to go read some scripture now.

P.S. there's a ton of footage online. That's one thing there wasn't a shortage of.

Rob and I were in bed, in New Jersey, on an ostrich farm(long story).

It was about 8:50 and my cell rang. It was my Mom, "A plane just flew into the World Trade Center, turn on your TV"

Of course, I went back to bed. About 10-20 minutes later it rang again. "Ok, another one hit...and they hit the pentagon. Turn on your TV!!"

We were supposed to go into the city that day to see Rob's friends and take in a show. But there we were watching the TV on an old shitty coach surrounded by about 12cats (again another time).

When Rob got through to his friend John he was crying. We could hear people screaming through the phone from outside John's window.

2 days later I took a train to RI. A somber Steve picked me up at the station.

I flew back to CO on September 14, 2001. Everyone on the plan clapped when we landed. I still have my ticket stub.

I was working in an office in Auburndale, Florida as a warranty manager. Co-workers came in the office saying there was a big fire in a building in NYC. we pretty much ignored it till they came back a little later and said they thought a plane had hit a building on purpose. We went over to the IT department (because they had the TV of course) and watched what was happening. There were so many rumors going around it was hard to make sense of it all. We couldn't believe anyone could do such an inhuman act.

I still can't get my mind around the fact that anybody thinks killing innocent people is an answer to their problems. I remember thinking the same thing back when the catholics and protestants were blowing up daycare centers and pubs in ireland.

Yes, I remember now calling Valencia because I knew she and Rob were planning to go into the city that day. "Honey, don't go into the city today. Someone seems to be blowing it up." Yea, like traveling to the city was even going to be an option - talk about the inability to initially grasp the enormity of the situation. I remember calling the airline a couple days later and arranging for her to fly home from Providence, changing her return ticket from NYC - Newark, I think - because apparently those airports weren't going to be an option for anyone for a few days....

Todd & I had flown into Seattle airport the night before from Anchorage. The next morning we were driving back to the airport when Todd discovers he has for the first time in his life, lost his wallet--on September 10th, mind you-- Our thoughts: No worries, I will be able to get him through the airport with my badge - you have high airline credentials when you are a flight attendant- ha!-- so that we can check lost and found, because for some reason, no one is answering the phone in lost and found that morning. When we get to the SEA airport, it is roped off with lots of police and all these people are walking out of the terminal- What is going on?
For some reason we THEN turn on our cell phones and we have many, many messages from family members asking us to call them ASAP....they were wondering if we were flying or if I was working in the air. We head back to the apartment, turn on the TV and call everyone to let them know we are OK. Little did we know how much was going to change that morning, we thought the worst was going to get his wallet replaced. We ended up spending 5 days in Seattle trying to get his info "shipped" to us, since there were no overnight services because planes were not flying.
